As we noted in the previous section, analysis of remote sensing imagery involves the identification of various targets in an image, and those targets may be environmental or artificial features which consist of points, lines, or areas. Targets may be defined in terms of the way they reflect or emit radiation. A frequently raised question in remote sensing community is that whether remote sensing is science, or technology, or art. Many of the literature preferred to define remote sensing as “science and art of obtaining and interpreting information about an object, area, or phenomenon through the analysis” (e.g., Jensen ; Bhatta ).

Remote Sensing Supports Interpretation in Other Ways •Helps explain and support management decisions regarding critical resource issues •Space studies represent today’s pioneer spirit and can bring new approach for interpreting historical/archeological . Effective utilization of remote sensing data depends on the ability of the user to be accurate and consistent when interpreting photographs, images, graphs, or statistics derived from remote sensing sources. While most planners have been introduced to photo and image interpretation in their formal training, the best use of the data usually.

Remote sensing, like the rest of GIS, has applications across the spectrum. If we just look at satellite imagery, we can predict agricultural yields across regions, assess forest health, and determine available water in lakes and reservoirs. Chapter 5. Preprocessing in remote sensing Introduction Remote sensing images from spaceborne sensors with resolutions from 1 km to remote sensing sensors already large t archives for periods over 20 year are available via the World Wide Web (e.g., Landsat, NOAA-AVHRR).

Book Description. No matter how advanced the technology, there is always the human factor involved - the power behind the technology. Interpreting Remote Sensing Imagery: Human Factors draws together leading psychologists, remote sensing scientists, and government and industry scientists to consider the factors involved in expertise and perceptual skill.

Interpreting Remote Sensing Imagery: Human Factors breaks down the mystery of what experts do when they interpret data, how they learn, and what individual factors speed or impede training. Even more importantly, it gives you the tools to train efficiently and understand how the human factor impacts data interpretation.

Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation, 7th Edition is designed to be primarily used in two ways: as a textbook in the introductory courses in remote sensing and image interpretation, and as a reference for the burgeoning number of practitioners who use geospatial information and analysis in their work.
